Meal cutlery on board and aircraft.?

How come we are not allowed to take knives on board aircraft and yet with you meal you get metal knives forks and spoons to eat with .or at least you do on Iberia airline of spain. and the knives have got a serrated edge ,think of the damage that you could do with that and a metal fork .also
