Xbox 360 Question - wireless router?

Ok, so i want to get my boyfriend the wireless router for his xbox for christmas. I got him the Pelican wireless network adaptor already, but i was told that you need a wireless router to go with it or it wont work with the xbox. So i guess my questions are, is this true and what wireless router will be compatible with the Xbox 360.
