Should Senator Robert Byrd be allowed to stay in the senate?

Byrd is a former Grand Kleagel of the KKK, The democrats consider him the heart and soul of the senate. Should he be allowed to stay in the Senate? If he were a Republican do you think he would get the same reverence from the NAACP, they have problem with Byrd, the drive by media have no problems with byrd... is it only because he is a democrat that this is acceptable... remember what happened to Trent Lott after his comments at Strom Thurmans birthday party... the drive bys abc, nbc, cbs, msnbc, cnn,pbs etc and liberal democrats savaged him in the media and he was forced to give up his leadership role in the senate??? double standard I do believe
